Alternatives to Medication for ADD and ADHD?
There
are alternatives to medication for ADD and ADHD, such as Ritalin,
Adderall and other stimulants. Sometimes ADD coaching and ADHD coaching
can be just as effective.
According to the government's
Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, persistent and negative side effects of
these stimulants have been documented, including sleep disturbances,
reduced appetite, and suppressed growth. Any of these might have
important health implications for the millions of children who are
currently taking medication for ADD or ADHD.
Hyperactive
children in our country are regularly put on these medications,
which often appear to work miracles on the disruptive and impulsive
behaviors that are characteristic of ADD and ADHD. Many people
believe that the benefits in terms of academic achievement and
social behavior warrant the possible risks. However, there are also
many concerns about the use of medications for ADHD, and as studies
continue to monitor their effects, the controversy grows.
Increasingly, parents, physicians, and educational professionals are
seeking alternatives to medication for ADD and ADHD.

What can ADD Coaching and ADHD Coaching
Accomplish?
ADD coaching
and ADHD coaching have been receiving a lot of attention recently,
simply because it works. An experienced ADD coach or ADHD coach can
help a child or an adult understand the complex nature of their
ADD/ADHD and identify their natural strengths. Coping strategies can
be taught which can encourage better focus and improve learning
dramatically.
If you or
your child have been grappling with attention deficit and/or
hyperactivity disorder, ADD coaching can help. ADD and ADHD children
face unique challenges that can interfere with their quality of
life. These challenges might include hyperactivity, impulsivity, and
attention issues, as well as the belief that they can’t attain their
goals because they have ADD. ADD coaching and ADHD coaching not only
teach effective coping strategies, but also address the
psychological issues. Having ADD or ADHD doesn't mean the child
can't learn, and our coaches will help the child to realize that.
